✦ MY ART JOURNEY ✦
How It All Started
When I was 12, I met a friend who was really good at drawing. I wanted to be just like her and so I tried to draw too. For a while, all I did was trace official steven universe art or trace and edit things to make my own drawings. I wanted to get more serious though. Early 2018 was the first time I tried digital art and late 2018 is when I started to make my own art without tracing.
Teaching Myself to Draw
I took art up until grade 8 at school but it felt too stifling to me because I don't really like to be told what to draw. I learned to draw through observation and practice. Going outside of my comfort zone and constantly trying to one-up myself each piece helped me grow and improve.
Branching Out
ANIMATION
March 14 2020 is when I posted my first animation! It was .... really bad but I like to think I've improved. I did quite a bit of small looping animations for a lot of DTIYS contests on Instagram during this time and I posted my first full-ish animation in December! I don't animate that much anymore because it's so time consuming but now that I have BOXES, I have a lot more projects in mind :)

ONLINE STORE
When I was 12 and at the start of my art journey, I used to make homemade stickers with some sticker paper, my dad's office color printer, and I hand-cut them with tiny scissors. I've always wanted to make products like stickers and sell them. Something about being able to physically hold my art makes me really happy! When I was 15, I launched my first ever Kickstarter (with the permission/support of my parents!). Since then, I have successfully launched 4 Kickstarters and I continue to make some smaller products like stickers and prints which I sell on my online store!

GAME DEV
In March of 2020, I decided that I wanted to learn about game development and make games. I went head first into unity and... did almost nothing :'))) I learned a bit about making a character controller, tilemaps, and a bit of code but then I quit because I didn't really have a goal in mind. I would put that on pause for other artistic pursuits until August of 2022. I learned a bit more of the basics and made replicas of flappy bird and snake. I took another break to focus on my animation and school though.
In November of 2022, I was given the opportunity to do an individual project for my Media Arts 12 class. I decided to finally plan and make a proper game. My chosen game engine was Ren'py since it seemed like an easy game engine to start with. Over the course of 6 months (with 2 long hiatuses, so really it was more like over the course of 3 months), I finally finished my first game. Learn more about it and play it here!

The Future?
(As of May 2023)
Starting out with illustration has given me a good foundation to start with. With this, I've been able to branch out to other skills like animation and product design. For my future, I want to learn more about game design and development and create my own games! I would also like to delve deeper and improve my animation skills and eventually maybe learn how to compose music :)

I've been accepted into Vancouver Film School for game design and will begin in August of 2023!
